Major Michael Bower Watto, DO, cousin of MPC Official Hillary Bower, is currently serving near Karbala, Iraq as a Brigade Surgeon with the 4th IBCT (ABN), 25th ID.  Photo taken in Green Zone in Baghdad.  Mike is a graduate of Pocono Mountain HS (where he played football and wrestled) and Penn State University.

PFC Edward Platt ; nephew of Mid-Penn Conference Basketball Official Mark Scarangella. Graduated from Central Dauphin East HS in June 2001.  Enlisted in the US Army July 4, 2001 .  After basic training was assigned to the 2/187 Infantry, 3rd Platoon, A-Company of the 101st Airborne.  In January 2002 was sent to Afghanistan for the onset of Operation Enduring Freedom.  While there he earned his CIB and Airborne patches.  He was there for 8 months.  In February 2003 he was sent to Iraq for the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In September he was wounded by a direct hit from an RPG (that failed to fully explode) while on patrol.  After being stabilized in Germany he was flown back to Walter Reed Hospital where 15 days before his 21st birthday his right leg was amputated just above the knee.  he is currently still at Walter Reed learning to adjust to a prosthetic.  He plans on attending college this fall at Shippensburg University where he would like to earn a degree in business and finance.  He served his country with honor and integrity and his family is very proud of him.

Robin Cadow
2nd Lt. , United States Air Force Graduated 2003 from the Air Force Academy with academic and athletic honors. Robin is currently is in training at Corpus Christi , TX to get her wings.  Her address is 406 Box 183 , APO , AE 09110-0183.  Robin is the niece of Tom Daniels.

Sergeant George Miller, III, nephew of Benn Miller, is a member of the U.S. National Guard. He is a Military Policeman serving in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Mike Kenes, a friend of Mid-Penn Conference basketball official Tom Daniels, is currently serving in Iraq. He is an employed with PHEAA.

Dave Salter, son of Mid-Penn Basketball Official Eddie Salter, is a Major in the US Army.  He is stationed in Washington , DC working out of the Hoffman bldg, the Army's Personnel Command.  Dave is an Army pilot who has had a very distinguished flying career.  His email is salter4@cox.net (home) or David.Salter@hoffman.army.mil or david.salter@us.army.mil



Pvt. Bennett, David L., Trinity High School Class of 2003, graduated United States Marine Corps basic training, Parris Island, South Carolina, 27 February, 2004 and will report to the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. He is the son of Lynnmarie & Michael Bennett. He is also the grandson of deceased longtime Central Pennsylvania scholastic and collegiate football and basketball Hall of Fame official, Fred W. Bennett, who also served in the USMC and his grandmother, Helen C. (Hollinger) Bennett.



Specialist Michael Young, B Company, 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Brigade, 28th Infantry Division, PA Army National Guard, West Chester, PA, nephew of Central PA Basketball Official Association member, Lee Young, is currently serving with the U.S. Army in Kosovo, Task Force Falcon, KFOR5A, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit's mission is to provide a safe and secure environment through high visibility presence patrols and a partnership with the Kosovo Police Force (KPS); to help strengthen ties between K-Albanian and K-Serbs in Kosovo and; to bring peace to this war-torn region within the Balkans. Michael's real world vocation is as a policeman in Haverford, PA.

Lt Carolyn Pearson, U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Carolyn serves with the 67th Combat Support Hospital, Tukrit, Iraq. Her unit was originally stationed in Wurzburg, Germany. Carolyn is the daughter of
Jeanne and Mike Pearson.

Many of us have a connection to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Given that and given that so many of them are deployed in dangerous places and in need of certain items that normal channels will not provide, the Mid Penn Basketball Referees have decided to start a program called “Make the Call--Support Our Troops.”
