Former Mid-Penn Conference Basketball Official Brian Hancock (son of Frank Hancock) recently had a memorable moment at Army Airborne School. His fifth and last jump was at night, 2230 hours, no moon with a combat load of 95 lbs. When he jumped, a straight metal pin, about 6 inches long that was supposed to come off of his main chute broke off and remained attached preventing his main chute from opening. When Brian realized his main chute didn’t open he pulled his reserve which initially failed to open as well. Brian proceeded to pound it open with his fist, which finally made the chute come out which then fell between his legs. When it deployed, it came up and wrapped around his right leg causing him to go upside down. Eventually he worked his right leg free and landed. When he landed two ambulances met him on the ground who were observing with night vision devices. They cut off the broken pin from the chute and gave it to him as a souvenir.

Mid-Penn Conference Basketball Official Kenn Marshall travelled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with his son Matt from June 24 to July 5, hiking about 60 miles in the process. Click on Marshall to view some photos of the trip.
